After your aesthetic treatment

Aftercare guidance for aesthetic medicine

How you look after your skin in the days after a treatment matters as much as the treatment itself. This page gathers general aftercare guidance for the aesthetic medicine treatments we offer. Your practitioner will always give you instructions tailored to your treatment — if anything they tell you differs from this page, follow your practitioner.

General guidance for any aesthetic treatment

  • Follow the specific instructions your practitioner gives you on the day of your treatment; they take priority over this page.
  • Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching, rubbing or pressing on it unnecessarily.
  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas, hammams and very hot environments for the first 24 hours unless your practitioner tells you otherwise.
  • Do not drink alcohol on the day of the treatment if your practitioner has advised against it.
  • Avoid sun exposure and use the sun protection your practitioner recommends — this applies in Marbella all year round.
  • Attend any follow-up appointment your practitioner schedules.

After neuromodulator treatment (e.g. botulinum toxin)

  • Stay upright for the first few hours after treatment and avoid lying down flat during that time.
  • Do not rub, massage or apply pressure to the treated areas for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, heat treatments and facials during the first 24 hours.
  • Small bumps or slight redness at the injection points are common in the first hours and usually settle quickly.
  • The effect appears gradually over the following days; the full result is usually assessed at a review appointment around two weeks later.

After dermal fillers and lip enhancement

  • Mild swelling, tenderness or small bruises at the treated area are common in the first days; a cold compress wrapped in a clean cloth can help relieve discomfort.
  • Do not massage the treated area unless your practitioner has specifically asked you to.
  • Avoid lipstick and lip cosmetics for the first 24 hours after lip treatment.
  • Avoid very hot drinks, intense exercise and heat treatments during the first 24 hours.
  • Sleep with your head slightly raised the first night if swelling is noticeable.
  • Contact us if swelling or any concern persists beyond the period your practitioner mentioned.

After tension threads (lifting threads)

  • Mild tightness, swelling or bruising is common in the first days.
  • Avoid pressing directly on the treated areas and sleep on your back where possible in the first nights.
  • Avoid wide or exaggerated facial movements and intense exercise in the first days, as advised by your practitioner.
  • Do not have facials, massages or other treatments on the area until your practitioner says it is safe.

After mesotherapy, skin boosters and polylactic acid (biostimulator) treatments

  • Small marks at the injection points, and in the case of polylactic acid some mild swelling, are common in the first days.
  • Keep the skin well hydrated and follow the skincare routine your practitioner recommends.
  • Avoid sun exposure, saunas and intense exercise for the first 24–48 hours.
  • Polylactic acid treatments work progressively: the stimulation develops over the following weeks, and your practitioner will plan the review sessions with you.

When to contact us urgently

  • Please contact the clinic during opening hours, Monday to Friday 10:00–19:00, if you notice anything that concerns you after your treatment.
  • Seek urgent medical help — call 112 or our 24-hour Quirónsalud line on +34 602 44 30 75 — if you experience severe pain that does not ease, significant swelling, skin that looks pale, bluish or mottled, blistering, vision changes, or signs that worry you such as fever.
  • In any medical emergency, always call 112 first.
