Movement as medicine: why your body keeps score
Skin Medical Clinic
The body is an honest accountant. Every hour at a desk, every long drive along the coast, every night of poor sleep is recorded somewhere — in a stiff hip, a rounded shoulder, a jaw that clicks.
Most people wait until pain demands attention. But the earlier signals are quieter: a morning that takes longer to loosen up, a golf swing that feels shorter, a neck that tires by mid-afternoon.
The good news is that movement quality responds remarkably well to attention. Regular, varied, unhurried movement — walking, swimming, gentle mobility work — restores more than any single heroic session.
A useful rule: move a little every day, move differently every week. Your tissues adapt to what you repeat, so give them variety — reach, rotate, carry, hang, walk on uneven ground.
And when something does not resolve on its own, do not push through it. A skilled assessment can distinguish between what needs rest, what needs movement and what needs hands-on care. That conversation is exactly what our physiotherapy and manual therapy sessions are for.
